Couples Therapy
The need for couples counseling does not necessarily reflect a failed relationship; it shows that you and your partner are willing to take the next step to stay committed to each other and conquer the issue at hand. The longer you are together, the more likely your relationship will reach a crossroads. Sometimes, having a neutral third party can help you effectively communicate.
I utilize the Imago method to help couples move through challenges as they occur. The Imago Method is a therapeutic approach that focuses on helping couples create more conscious and connected relationships by addressing the underlying dynamics that contribute to conflicts and challenges. I use this method to help couples work through communication, intimacy, and relationship dynamic issues.
Communication:
As you move through a relationship, it is natural for priorities to change. It can lead to being on a different page than your partner without a clear vision of a path forward.
Communication:
Communication issues can often be the root of many relationship issues, and no partnership has perfect communication. In couples therapy, we will work on:
Communication and listening skills
Problem-solving as a team
Understanding the dynamics of the relationship
Finding healthy ways to manage and resolve conflicts, thus fostering a more positive and collaborative relationship.
Intimacy Issues:
It is often too easy to second guess compatibility, especially when intmacy issues become a consistent problem in your relationship. Intimacy issues present in your partnership may exist because there has been a breach of trust, self esteem issues, stress, or trauma. There are so many reasons this issue can appear, but there are many ways to address it.
Identifying underlying causes such as stress or past trauma
Building or rebuilding the emotional connection
Communication of individual needs
Developing or rebuilding trust
Improving self-esteem
Creating an emotionally safe space where partners feel comfortable expressing themselves without fear of judgment or rejection.
Relationship Dynamic and Other Issues:
Figuring out a relationship dynamic and how you function together amongst challenges can make tensions high. You may just be starting out or recently separated. You may need counseling about making a huge decision together or premarital counseling. On the other end, you can be figuring out the logistics of co-parenting or facing the complications that occur after a divorce or separation.
Every partnership faces its own unique challenges and at Insights Counseling, my goal is to give you the skills to have a healthy future for every relationship.
